Jesus and Christmas
Luke 2 verses 10-11
"And the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid.
I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord."
For Christians all over the world (and almost all people for various reasons), Christmas is a very important and joyous holiday. It is the day that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago.
Christmas is literally 2 words combined. The first word being Christ, the second word being mas or mass. E.g. Christ's Mass. Which taken as seen, means a mass, or church service, in honor of Christ. Many Christmas customs throughout the world, are based on the birth of Christ.
People exchange presents because the Three Wise Men who brought presents to the baby Jesus. We sing carols that tell about the birth of Christ, and put up Nativity Scenes (crèche)that depict the birth of Jesus. A crèche is a model of a stable similar to the one Christ was born in.
But most importantly, Christians remember and celebrate the birth of Christ through prayer and thanksgiving for his sacrifice for the world.
John 14:2,3 and 6
John 14:2-3 "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
John 14:6 "...I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Away in a Manager
Away in a manger,
No crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus
Lay down his sweet head;
The stars in the bright sky
Looked down where He lay-
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay.
